The community that I love.
There’s something incredibly special about working within a community that feels like home. Even more meaningful when your passions overlap in a way that gives back.
By day, I serve as an educator director, supporting children and families through learning, growth, and connection. By heart (and behind the lens), I’m a photographer who believes moments matter, especially the ones that bring people together. Yesterday those two worlds came together in the most meaningful way when I had the opportunity to capture the My Someone Special Dance to help raise funds for our after school program.
A Night Bigger Than Photos
The My Someone Special Dance isn’t just an event, it’s a memory in the making. It’s laughter echoing across the room, tiny hands holding tightly to someone they admire, and smiles that don’t fade when the music stops. To support the program, I donated my time taking professional photos at the dance, offering families the chance to capture these moments while also giving back to a program that pours so much into our children every day. Every photo taken wasn’t just a keepsake, it was an investment into the future of our after school program, helping to provide resources, experiences, and opportunities for the kids who walk through our doors daily.
A Full-Circle Moment
As I watched the dance floor fill with families, I couldn’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia. Growing up, I attended a very similar event, a father-daughter dance that I still remember years later. I remember the excitement of getting dressed up, the music, the photos, and most of all, the feeling of being celebrated and cherished. Standing there now, not as the child, but as the educator and photographer, felt like a full-circle moment. I wasn’t just witnessing memories being made; I was helping preserve them.
Why This Matters to Me
Community isn’t just where we work, it’s where we grow, where we support one another, and where we show up in meaningful ways. Being able to give back through my photography, especially in a space where I already invest my heart every day, is something I don’t take lightly.
This event reminded me why I do what I do, in both roles. Education builds foundations. Photography preserves moments. Together, they tell a story of connection, care, and community.
